La Casermetta is a traditional stone farmhouse, probably around 250 years old in its present form but with origins, evident in the foundations, dating back to the 12th century. It sits nestled on a hillside, overlooking the Arno valley. The house was once part of a small strategic outpost providing early warning to Florence of invaders approaching from Rome.
In more recent times La Casermetta became our family home in Tuscany, following careful restoration, assisted by an uncompromisingly traditional Florentine architect.
After some delightful years immersed in Tuscan country life we have returned to Australia and now offer La Casermetta to travellers seeking a level of comfort, luxury and practicality that can sometimes only be found in a private, much cared for home.
We return each year to fine tune the house and make sure everything runs smoothly, adding, renewing, replacing and upgrading as need dictates. Each year the house develops more character and charm and each year new visitors discover its relaxed pleasures and tell their friends. So gradually over time a discerning group of people has also come to consider La Casermetta home.
We invite you to browse our website and if you agree that La Casermetta would be the ideal home base for your next Tuscan holiday we will be delighted to hear from you. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to call or email me, Suzanne Byford.
