The village is a 3 km drive down the hill from the house. There are various shops including 2 small supermarkets, a butcher and a chemist, 2 restaurants (Sotto l’arco, a real gem, produces traditional Tuscan food, casalinga-style, which you can eat there or take home or they will make anything you like to order), a post office, a bar / tabacchi where you can buy bus tickets to Florence, a petrol station with after-hours self-service pump and a bank with ATM.
Just 10 km to the south is a huge supermarket with absolutely everything and a daily regional market is never far away.
The handbook at the house, as well as covering the practicalities, gives useful information on various subjects such as:
- Gallery visits, advance booking details.
- List of nearby restaurants with directions and distances.
- Outings such as the designer outlet mall, surprisingly close and very popular.
- Regional markets, the antique market circuit and local festivals.
- Nearby services such as internet, dry-cleaners, church services etc.
- Opening hours, useful and emergency phone numbers.
Other Activities:
La Casermetta doesn’t have a pool or a putting green. It’s a haven where guests can feel completely at home, savour fresh produce from local markets, discover interesting wines on day trips around the region, shop, sightsee then return to La Casermetta’s comforts, absorb the atmosphere and rhythm of the surrounding countryside and simply relax. Having said that, particularly for long term guests, there are sport and leisure facilities which can be accessed with a little planning. (Details supplied on local gym and nearby country club offering golf and swimming.)
